The ceremony was attended by KEPCO President Kim Jong-gap, KEPCO Alumni Association Chairman Kim Young-man, and representatives of the 5th Island Love Scholarship recipients.
Since 2016, KEPCO and the KEPCO Alumni Association have been conducting the 'Island Love Scholarship Project.' It provides tuition support to university students from 66 islands and the cities/counties governing those islands. Over the past four years, 340 students have received a total of 684 million KRW.
In the fifth year of the project, 100 students attending 69 universities (including junior colleges) were selected as scholarship recipients. Next month, a total of 300 million KRW will be provided as tuition support, with 3 million KRW per person.
In particular, students from single-parent families, multi-child families, persons with disabilities, North Korean defectors, multicultural families, and children of national veterans (meritorious persons) are fairly selected through a comprehensive evaluation of their family circumstances and dedication to their studies, ensuring diverse environments are considered.
In his encouragement speech, President Kim said, "To grow as global talents, you must understand digital technology well to enhance your personal competitiveness," and urged, "I hope you cultivate a positive attitude and proactiveness with the mindset of 'I can do it' and 'I will try.'"
