View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), which was massively spread at the August 15 Liberation Day rally in Gwanghwamun, is shaking the entire country, Haman-gun has also strongly urged attendees of the rally within the jurisdiction to voluntarily get tested.
On the 21st, Cho Geun-je, the governor of Haman-gun, held an emergency press conference and said, "Those who attended the Gwanghwamun rally and have not yet been tested should get a diagnostic test by 3 p.m. today regardless of symptoms," adding, "If testing is inevitably difficult, please complete the test promptly through a reservation at the public health center."
On the same day, Governor Cho also encouraged residents who attended individually by private car rather than chartered buses to get tested, emphasizing that thorough identity protection and anonymous testing are possible for all testers.
According to the county, as of the 20th, 38 people were identified as participants in the Liberation Day rally, of whom 25 underwent testing and received negative results. The county urged the remaining 13 untested individuals to promptly undergo testing.
Additionally, to quickly secure the list of attendees, Vice Governor Kim Jun-gan personally visited the group leaders several times along with responsible officials and police officers to engage in dialogue and persuasion.
To prevent further spread, the county delivered emergency administrative orders to the group leaders on the 17th and 19th, but the leaders strongly refused to submit the list. Therefore, the county is conducting an epidemiological investigation to secure the list by mobilizing epidemiological investigators, police, and responsible officials.
Governor Cho stated, "Since this is directly related to regional safety, an emergency response is necessary," and added, "Strong legal measures will be taken against rally attendees who refuse to get tested or submit their lists in the future."
