Dobong-gu Launches Promising Musician Discovery Project 'ORIGINALS'
Promotion Support Project for Discovering Promising Musicians with Low Public Recognition... Selected Musicians (2 Teams) Supported with M/V, Live Clips, Interview Videos, Photo Shoots, etc. · Plan to Discover New Musicians Each Quarter and Support Video Production for Creative Activities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) Open Changdong Project Group (OPCD) is promoting the ‘Originals’ project to discover and support young musicians, including rookie artists and promising musicians, to create a ‘Music City Changdong.’
Since last year, as a pilot project, the district discovered 13 young musicians such as Brown Tiger, Jo Gwang-il, and A.Train through a video content support project for promoting creative music works, producing support for over 30 videos.
From this year, due to the impact of COVID-19 and other factors, the support through online channels has been strengthened, and the pilot support project has been reorganized into an official program called ‘Originals.’
The first recruitment was conducted for two weeks from July 22 to August 4 via Instagram. A total of 122 teams (69 individuals and 53 groups) applied, and after a competitive rate of 61 to 1, two teams were finally selected.
The two teams selected this time are ‘onthedal (Park Ji-hye)’ and ‘IAMFROMROCK (Shin Jin-sik).’
The two selected musicians will work with the video professionals of the Open Changdong Project Group to produce one music video, two live videos, one interview video, and a photo shoot each. The produced content will be introduced from early September through the Open Changdong Project Group’s online channels (website, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and music community channels.
Going forward, the district plans to continuously support video content production for indie musicians every quarter.
In addition, various projects are being conducted targeting young musicians and local residents to foster the music industry centered in Changdong.
Main programs include ▲ joint creation program for musicians ‘Song Camp’ ▲ music industry workforce development program ‘WE MAKE MUSIC: A&R’ ▲ online competition ‘OPCD Competition’ ▲ and ‘Youth & Office Worker Creative Program’ for local residents.
Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “I hope this video content production support project will provide an opportunity for young musicians who have not received attention to be known to the public, and we will spare no effort in various support such as housing support and creative support for young musicians.”
