Gwangju University Decides to Award Special Disaster Recovery Scholarships
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) announced on the 20th that it has provided 11.3% of the total actual tuition payment for the first semester of the 2020 academic year as a COVID-19 Disaster Recovery Special Scholarship.
In particular, a fund of about 175 million won, voluntarily raised by President Kim Hyukjong, key university professors, team leaders and above, and the staff fellowship association, was also included in the scholarship.
The recipients of this Disaster Recovery Special Scholarship are students who registered for the first semester of the 2020 academic year and are scheduled to register for the second semester, and the payment method is a deduction on the second semester tuition bill.
Students who completed all first semester classes and took a leave of absence can receive the deduction in the semester they return. Graduates are expected to receive it as a living expense scholarship.

President Kim Hyukjong of Gwangju University said, “We decided to provide the Disaster Recovery Special Scholarship to encourage students’ studies who experienced unprecedented confusion due to the impact of COVID-19 and to share the pain in the serious economic situation caused by reduced consumption,” and added, “All members will do their best to ensure no gaps in student education.”
