Andong City Hosts 'Hahoe Mask Performance' in Downtown Every Weekend Night ... "Operating Until Early October"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] With the support of Andong City, the Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori Preservation Society (President Kim Chun-taek) is successfully operating the Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori night regular performances every Friday and Saturday in the cultural street area of downtown Andong.
This performance, held for one hour starting at 7:30 PM, has been ongoing since June to provide nighttime attractions for domestic and international tourists and citizens visiting downtown Andong, as well as to revitalize the old downtown commercial district.
As a pre-performance, a Talnori troupe parade begins at the entrance of the Jjimdak Alley in the old market and moves to the cultural street, enlivened by Jisinbalgi (ritual stepping on the ground) to boost excitement. Photo times are also held intermittently to encourage audience participation.
The main performance is newly arranged in a simple one-act play format based on the 60-minute regular performance held in Hahoe Village, and is conducted for about 30 minutes on the central stage of the cultural street. Busking performances linked with local cultural artists are also included. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Andong City explained that out of a total of 30 performances scheduled this year, 15 have been successfully completed, and the performances will continue until early October.
