[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party held a reorganization meeting on the 19th and decided to reappoint Assemblyman Song Gap-seok, who was the sole candidate for the city party chairman.
The city party reorganization meeting was held by the executive committee, which was delegated the authority of the city party delegates' meeting to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Out of a total of 59 members, 54 participated (30 attended in person / 24 by written resolution).
Song Gap-seok, the reappointed city party chairman (Member of the National Assembly for Seo-gu Gap), said in his acceptance speech, "I am honored and entrusted with this important position once again following the past two years," adding, "Although we face crises such as the spread of COVID-19, the longest rainy season and heavy rain damage in history, we will wisely overcome them together with the great citizens."
He continued, "Gwangju is a city leading AI, the Gwangju-type job model, energy issues, and the Green New Deal, and it is the city at the forefront of the new future," adding, "We will lay the foundation for Gwangju's development, raise the pride of Gwangju citizens, complete a dignified Gwangju, and furthermore achieve the reestablishment of the administration and victory in the next local elections."

The term of the city party chairman elected through this reorganization meeting will last until the next regular national delegates' meeting, and he will lead the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party in the 20th presidential election and the 8th simultaneous nationwide local elections to be held in 2022.
