Yeonggwang-gun 'Dementia Safe Village Program' Operation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 19th that it is operating the 'Visiting Dementia Safe Village Program' to designate two villages in Anmaeng-ri, Bulgab-myeon as dementia safe villages by the 21st.
The main contents consist of programs that greatly help prevent falls and provide emotional stability through physical activities for the elderly, such as dementia screening (memory) tests, laughter therapy, cognitive activity games, and making nostalgic black rubber shoes.
In particular, elderly men showed high interest in on-site experiences and actively participated.
A dementia safe village is a village where dementia patients and their families can safely and independently carry out daily life and freely participate in desired social activities. To expand correct understanding and awareness of dementia, one site was designated and operated last year, and two new sites are planned to be designated this year.
Additionally, to create a dementia-friendly environment, the village will continuously support mural painting on village fences, provision of signboards, distribution of automatic gas shut-off devices, and dementia prevention and early detection projects.
