A man in his 50s caught by coast guard while night fishing kayaking in Jeju
[Asia Economy Min Jun-young Intern Reporter] A man in his 50s was caught by the coast guard for kayak fishing at night in the waters of Jeju.
The Jeju Coast Guard announced on the 19th that they have apprehended and are investigating Mr. A (56) on charges of operating a kayak at night without safety equipment (violation of the Water Leisure Safety Act).
Mr. A is accused of fishing using his own kayak without safety equipment for two hours from around 9 p.m. on the 18th, approximately 400 meters offshore from the breakwater at Hallim Outer Port in Jeju City.
According to the coast guard, Mr. A went out to sea using his own kayak without carrying night distress signal devices, fire extinguishers, life rings, or other nighttime equipment.
The coast guard is currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident with Mr. A.
According to the Water Leisure Safety Act, water leisure activities are prohibited from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise.
