On the 19th, Volvo Trucks announced that on the 18th, at the Pyeongtaek Comprehensive Delivery Center, an award ceremony for the competition winners was held with six winners and executives including Park Kang-seok, CEO of Volvo Trucks Korea.
Started in 2007 and marking its 14th edition this year, the "Volvo Trucks Fuel Efficiency King Competition" was held online for the first time in its history due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the competition was conducted by designating a competition day where finalists selected through preliminaries nationwide gathered to drive a designated course to determine the winner.
However, this year, the competition was held online in a non-face-to-face format using Volvo Trucks' remote vehicle management system, "Dynafleet." Another difference from the traditional offline competition was that the event was jointly conducted with real-time data exchange with Volvo Trucks headquarters in Sweden using the remote system.
Currently, Euro 6 or higher large models of Volvo Trucks operating domestically are equipped with the Dynafleet system. Among them, 564 customers who wished to participate through the Volvo Trucks Korea mobile application joined this year's online Fuel Efficiency King Competition. The competition took place over about three weeks from July 13 to 31. The competition was divided into six categories, two for each model.
The "Fuel Efficiency Improvement" category selected the person who achieved the highest fuel efficiency improvement rate compared to a baseline of 100, which was set as each participant's average fuel efficiency over the past three months before the competition, by comparing it to the average fuel efficiency during the competition period. The "Dynafleet" category selected the driver with the highest Dynafleet score during the competition period among new service subscribers who did not have average fuel efficiency data for the past three months.
As a result, a total of 36 winners were selected this year, including first place (1 person), second place (2 people), and third place (3 people) holders in the two categories across three models: tractor, dump, and cargo trucks. In the Fuel Efficiency Improvement category, customer Han Woo-chan in the dump category achieved the highest improvement rate of 47.6%, ranking first. In the cargo category, customer Lee Seung-pyo recorded 34.9%, and in the tractor category, customer Choi Ui-hwan achieved 33%, becoming the winners of each category. In the Dynafleet category, customer Lee Sung-min in the dump category recorded the highest score of 99.83.
