Gyeongnam Province to Provide 200 Million KRW in Scholarships for Middle and High School Students from Low-Income Families in the First Half of the Year
50,000 KRW per Student Residing in Gyeongnam Recommended by School Principal
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gyeongnam Province has selected 416 middle and high school students (244 middle school students, 172 high school students) who have excellent academic performance and sincere behavior despite difficult educational cost burdens, and will provide 208 million won in scholarship funds for the first half of 2020 to children from low-income families.
The scholarship support project for children from low-income families is in its second year this year, planning to select a total of 800 scholarship students in the first and second halves of the year and provide a total of 400 million won in scholarships, 500,000 won per person.
The scholarship recipients are middle and high school students residing in Gyeongnam Province from households with income below 70% of the median income, who have improved or excellent academic performance, and who are sincere and exemplary despite difficult circumstances, recommended by the school principal as scholarship candidates.
The selection of scholarship students is made by the Gyeongnam Office of Education Scholarship Selection Committee, which reviews students recommended by schools after their own screening, and the final confirmation is made by Gyeongnam Province.
This project, promoted to provide equal educational opportunities and nurture talented individuals, also contributes to laying the foundation for Gyeongnam Province’s core task of creating a “Special Education Talent Province where the local community nurtures outstanding talents together.”
