Jongno-gu will conduct 'Disability Awareness Education' for teenagers during the school vacation this year, following last year's program.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) is operating the volunteer program "2020 Wise Volunteer Life" for middle and high school students on summer vacation until the 19th.
This program, held over a total of five sessions at the district office multipurpose room for middle and high school students, adds meaning by combining volunteer activities with social issues.
Starting on the 11th and continuing until the 19th, the program includes ▲ making bead bracelets for missing child prevention (safety field) ▲ making natural hemp scrubbers (environment field) ▲ disability awareness improvement campaign activities (community field), among others.
It was planned so that youths who usually find it difficult to participate in volunteer activities due to their studies can think about marginalized neighbors during the vacation period, empathize with their difficulties, and also take an interest in social issues such as the environment and missing child prevention.
The "Making Bead Bracelets for Missing Child Prevention" program involves creating bracelets engraved with the phone numbers of daycare centers. Youth volunteers will make these bracelets themselves to be worn by children during outdoor activities and provide them to local daycare centers.
The "Eco-friendly Hemp Scrubber Making" program is conducted in collaboration with the Earth Citizens Movement Federation to protect the environment. After Earth citizen education, participants make hemp scrubbers by hand and donate them to local welfare facilities.
The "Disability Awareness Improvement Program" allows youths to directly handle information devices for the visually impaired and participate in walking experiences, then express their impressions through drawings or messages which are uploaded to SNS and other platforms.
Through this, it is expected that a consensus for improving awareness of disabilities can be formed.

Mayor Kim Young-jong said, "Although it is regrettable that the summer vacation volunteer program is reduced compared to last year due to COVID-19, I hope that youths participating in 'Wise Volunteer Life' will take an interest in district administration and social issues," adding, "It will be an invaluable opportunity to share with neighbors and grow into active members of society."
