[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province is accelerating projects to establish itself as a cultural city.
In December last year, the city was selected as the first cultural city designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism under the Regional Culture Promotion Act. Accordingly, the Bucheon Cultural Foundation plans to promote various projects under the theme "A City That Speaks, A City That Listens," enabling citizens to directly participate in the creation of the cultural city.
Bucheon's cultural city strategy focuses on establishing the proactive role of citizens as cultural owners and creating a sustainable urban ecosystem.
The city intends to support citizens in identifying local cultural challenges themselves and creatively solving them, so they can become the main decision-makers in cultural city policies, and to build a system where anyone can culturally express their own ideas.
The foundation will focus on promoting about 30 projects in four areas: ▲Citizen Partnership ▲Environment for Creative Capacity Development ▲Creative Cultural Ecosystem ▲Management-Based Projects. In particular, human rights and gender sensitivity will be applied to all projects.
The projects will begin this month with the "Village Customized Public Design" project to create a lifestyle design village, followed by ▲Cultural City Children's Committee "Climate Crisis and Children's Rights Workshop" ▲Our Village Cultural Coordinator ▲Cultural City Citizen Network ▲Village Life Research Group ▲Discovery of Life-Friendly Cultural Spaces ▲Creation of Cultural Special Zones ▲Development and Nurturing of Story Content ▲Wisdom Sharing School "Human Bank" ▲Cultural Exchange Center ▲Operation of Neighborhood Art Shops, among others.
