Kwon Oh-hyun, Former Samsung Electronics Chairman, Received 11.3 Billion KRW in Compensation in the First Half of the Year

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Kwon Oh-hyun, Honorary Chairman of Samsung Electronics (former Chairman of Samsung Electronics Comprehensive Technology Institute), received a total compensation of 11.3 billion KRW in the first half of this year, including severance pay of 9 billion KRW.
According to Samsung Electronics' semi-annual report on the 14th, Honorary Chairman Kwon received a total compensation of 11.349 billion KRW in the first half of this year, including a salary of 417 million KRW, bonuses of 1.624 billion KRW, and retirement income of 9.29 billion KRW.
Honorary Chairmen Jeon Dong-soo, Yoon Boo-keun, and Shin Jong-kyun also received compensation in the 6 billion KRW range, including severance pay. Honorary Chairman Jeon received 6.989 billion KRW, Honorary Chairman Yoon received 6.6 billion KRW, and Honorary Chairman Shin received 6.422 billion KRW, respectively.
Among current CEOs, Kim Ki-nam, Vice Chairman and head of the DS (Device Solutions) division, received the highest compensation with a total of 999 million KRW, including a salary of 749 million KRW and bonuses of 212 million KRW.
Kim Hyun-suk, President and head of the CE (Consumer Electronics) division, received a total compensation of 670 million KRW, including a salary of 499 million KRW, bonuses of 161 million KRW, and other labor income. Ko Dong-jin, President and head of the IM (IT & Mobile Communications) division, received a total compensation of 700 million KRW, including a salary of 585 million KRW and bonuses of 98 million KRW.
Additionally, Samsung Electronics' R&D expenditure in the first half of this year reached a record high of 10.58 trillion KRW. Compared to the same period last year, it increased by 500 billion KRW, and the ratio of R&D expenses to sales was 9.8%.
Patents acquired through R&D investment in the first half of the year included 3,240 cases domestically and 4,234 cases in the United States. Facility investment amounted to 17.1 trillion KRW (14.7 trillion KRW for semiconductors and 1.6 trillion KRW for displays).

The number of domestic employees continued to increase, reaching 106,074 as of the end of June. This is a 0.9% increase compared to the first half of last year, also marking a record high. Compared to the end of last year (105,257 employees), the number increased by about 1,400 over six months. The company explained, "We are executing facility investments centered on semiconductors, and accordingly, the number of employees has increased."
