All Three Major Broadcasters to Provide Sign Language Interpretation in Main News Starting September
[Asia Economy, Reporter Kim Heungsoon] Following KBS, both MBC and SBS will also provide sign language interpretation during their main news broadcasts starting in September.
The Korea Communications Commission announced on August 14 that, after discussions with disability organizations and broadcasters, KBS will begin offering sign language interpretation on "News 9" from September 3, and that MBC and SBS will also support sign language interpretation in their main news programs during the same month.
The Commission plans to establish a comprehensive plan by the end of the year to strengthen broadcast accessibility for marginalized groups, including people with disabilities. It also aims to revise the public notice regarding the guarantee of access rights to disability-friendly broadcasts, including the scheduling and provision of such programs.
