Seoul City Councilor Jeong Jin-cheol Proposes Amendment to 'Seoul Public Transportation Basic Ordinance' for Seoul-style Digital New Deal
Specification of the Concept of 'Intelligent Transportation System' Supports the Establishment of 'Next-Generation Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS)' as a Digital New Deal Initiative
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Following the recently announced Korean New Deal policy by the government, which includes the promotion of the ‘Digital New Deal’ and ‘Green New Deal’ policies, the Seoul-type Digital New Deal is expected to be actively pursued. This includes the codification of related provisions in Seoul city ordinances to enable the establishment of the ‘Next-Generation Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS)’ planned as part of the ‘Digital New Deal’ within Seoul’s public transportation system.
According to the amendment to the 'Seoul Metropolitan City Public Transportation Basic Ordinance' proposed by Jeong Jin-cheol, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Transportation Committee (Democratic Party, Songpa 6), the ordinance reflects the content of the ‘Intelligent Transport System,’ which is the foundational concept of the ‘Next-Generation Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS)’ included in the government’s four core infrastructure digital management systems under the ‘Digital New Deal.’ This supports the active promotion of Seoul city policies and ensures that such policies are incorporated when establishing local plans for intelligent transport systems.
The newly incorporated ‘Intelligent Transport System’ refers to a transport system that enhances the efficiency and safety of transportation by developing and utilizing advanced transport technologies such as electronics, control, and communications, as well as transport information, to scientifically and automatically operate and manage transportation means and facilities.
Councilor Jeong Jin-cheol stated, “Through this amendment, the integration of advanced transport technologies and transport information is expected to contribute to the qualitative improvement of public transportation services, as well as job creation and community development.”
To promote the Korean New Deal policy, which includes the ‘Digital New Deal’ and ‘Green New Deal’ policies, the government plans to directly invest 114 trillion won in national funds by 2025, with a total investment of about 160 trillion won including private and local governments.
