Guro-gu Gallery 'Gurugi' Expansion Opening
Expanded to 302㎡... Interior Renovation Including Lighting and Sound Equipment Maintenance, Automatic Door Installation... 'Is It Independence?' Exhibition Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Liberation Open to All for Free Until the 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has expanded and reopened the gallery ‘Gurugi’.
On the 13th, Guro-gu announced that the local art museum ‘Gurugi’ has completed expansion construction and renovations, transforming into a more professional and comfortable exhibition space.
The gallery ‘Gurugi’ was established by Guro-gu in 2015 on the first floor of the Guro-gu Community Center (21 Gamasan-ro 25-gil) to provide residents with opportunities to enjoy high-quality culture and to support the creative activities of local artists. Since its opening, it has held various regular and special exhibitions, becoming a key cultural space in the area.
Guro-gu planned the expansion of ‘Gurugi’ to confirm its value and to elevate it as a representative gallery in the southwestern region of Seoul, where art museums are lacking.
Through expansion work carried out throughout July, ‘Gurugi’ increased in size from the original 196.7㎡ to 302㎡.
Before construction, Guro-gu received advice from exhibition planning experts on gallery space design. The space was arranged considering variability and scalability to accommodate various exhibitions, and lighting and sound equipment were upgraded. Additionally, an automatic door was installed at the entrance, and the lobby floor was leveled to ensure accessibility for everyone without inconvenience.
With ‘Gurugi’ now equipped with a considerable-sized gallery, Guro-gu plans to launch full-scale gallery operations. It aims to nurture the space as a hub for artistic activities in the southwestern Seoul area by hosting solo exhibitions of local artists and invitational exhibitions of mid-career artists.
At the newly renovated ‘Gurugi,’ a special exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of liberation, titled ‘Is Independence Correct?,’ is being held until the 29th of this month. About 100 items, including calligraphy and bibliographic materials of historical figures who risked their lives for independence, are on display.
The exhibition is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, including Sundays and public holidays, with no closures.
