Celltrion Begins Sales of COVID-19 Diagnostic Kits in the US
Two Types Including Antigen and Antibody Diagnostic Kits
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Celltrion announced on the 12th that it has launched a novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) diagnostic kit jointly developed with a domestic diagnostic kit company in the United States.
The newly introduced products are two types in total: the antigen diagnostic kit 'Saempinut' and the antibody diagnostic kit 'Diatrust.'
Saempinut, jointly developed by Celltrion and the diagnostic kit company BBB, is a product that can confirm COVID-19 infection status within 10 minutes at medical sites. It can screen patients in the early stage of infection who have not yet formed antibodies.
A Celltrion official said, "Saempinut shows a high sensitivity of over 95% compared to RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction), making it one of the highest quality rapid diagnostic devices related to COVID-19 currently available."
Celltrion plans to mainly supply Saempinut through large local pharmaceutical wholesalers.
Diatrust, developed by Celltrion and the diagnostic kit company Humasis, is an antibody diagnostic kit that detects antibodies formed after COVID-19 infection. It shows sensitivity from one week after onset when antibody formation becomes active, allowing it to be used in medical institutions to confirm discharge of recovered patients.
Since the two products play complementary roles, Celltrion intends to actively promote selling them in a package form.
Considering the possibility of a prolonged COVID-19 situation in the United States, Celltrion is also discussing supplying Diatrust as a home-use product that can be kept on hand and used when necessary.
