Hapcheon-gun Mobilizes Civil, Military, and Public Resources for Flood Damage Recovery Efforts
Cancellation of Senior Officials' Leave, All Administrative Efforts Focused on Recovery Operations
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 11th that it deployed a joint emergency flood damage recovery support team consisting of civilians, government, and military personnel to Yulgok-myeon and Ssangchaek-myeon, areas severely affected by flooding caused by heavy rain on the 7th and 8th.
On that day, the county dispatched about 500 people to the flood sites in Yulgok-myeon and Ssangchaek-myeon, including approximately 150 public officials from the county office, 300 volunteers, and 60 military personnel. Senior officials canceled their leave and focused all administrative efforts on the recovery work.
Additionally, a dedicated manpower support team was formed to monitor the damage situation in real time and carry out emergency recovery, with plans to provide swift support until the restoration is complete.
The emergency recovery support team deployed that day was assigned to each village to clean up flooded houses and village halls, repair water supply and road damage, and resume electricity supply.
According to the county on the 11th, an average of about 300mm of heavy rain and flooding over three days from the 6th caused significant property damage in Yulgok-myeon and Ssangchaek-myeon, including approximately 80 flooded houses, 435 hectares of flooded farmland, 300 greenhouses, and the death of 3,500 livestock.
Moon Jun-hee, the mayor of Hapcheon-gun, appealed for active participation from residents in flood damage recovery, stating, “We will do our best to support damage recovery so that the residents, who are distressed by the flood damage, can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
