Incheon International Airport Expressway Selected as Best Private Highway of the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Incheon International Airport Expressway has been selected as the best road in the government's evaluation of privately financed expressway operations.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the evaluation results of the operation performance of 18 privately financed expressways nationwide for last year on the 11th.
Incheon Airport Expressway received the highest rating in road safety and an excellent rating in road publicness, ranking first in the overall evaluation.
In addition, Suwon-Gwangmyeong Expressway, Oksan-Ochang Expressway, Yongin-Seoul Expressway, and Nonsan-Cheonan Expressway received excellent ratings in the overall evaluation.
The survey involved the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Private Road Management Support Center of the Korea Transport Institute, Korea Expressway Corporation, and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
They evaluated 42 detailed items in four areas: road safety, user convenience, operational efficiency, and road publicness to select excellent roads.
Most privately financed expressways improved safety, with reductions in traffic accidents and animal roadkill compared to the previous year.
The average traffic accident rate (number of traffic accident injuries per 100 million vehicles over a 1 km section) decreased from 6.62 to 6.17, and the number of roadkill incidents per kilometer dropped from 0.99 to 0.45.
All routes now support various toll payment methods such as cash, Hi-Pass cards, and transportation cards, enhancing user convenience.
However, areas such as promotional efforts, regional economic revitalization, and social contribution activities were found to need improvement.
