Gangdong-gu Creates 'Traditional Market with Music and Stories'
Creating Rich Attractions with Promotional Videos Linked to Specific Composers for Six Traditional Markets
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will revitalize traditional markets in the area, which have lost vitality due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), by creating 'Traditional Markets with Music and Stories' starting in August.
By utilizing speakers installed for announcement broadcasts in traditional markets to play classical music, the aim is to increase residents' interest in traditional markets and contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.
The targets are six traditional markets in Gangdong-gu: Amsa, Gildong, Seongnae, Gobundari, Myeongil, and Dunchon Station markets, and the project will be implemented from August.
Each traditional market will select a daily DJ to operate the program, which will include classical music broadcasts, market announcements, and sharing stories from merchants and residents.
In particular, to enhance the unique symbolism of each traditional market, classical music linked to specific composers will be broadcast for each market, allowing residents and merchants visiting the markets to experience the distinctive atmosphere and comfort of the markets while using them.
The district has been striving to break away from the conservative and stagnant image of traditional markets and to create markets that all generations, from middle-aged to young people, can feel familiar with and enjoy.
In the future, visual promotions tailored to video-centered trends will be expanded, promotional videos will be produced, and promotional teams will be recruited to encourage participation, among other various projects to support traditional markets struggling due to COVID-19.
