Jeonnam Fire Department's Dramatic Transport of Kidney Disease Emergency Patient Amid Heavy Rain
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] On the 8th, when heavy rain poured down, a patient with kidney disease was dramatically transported by firefighters and recovered health.
According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 9th, a report was received around 3 p.m. the previous day stating, "A patient undergoing peritoneal dialysis treatment, who was on vacation in Piagol, is in an emergency situation as the dialysis fluid ran out while being isolated due to the heavy rain warning in Gurye."
Upon receiving the report, the Gurye 119 Safety Center ambulance team was dispatched and found that the patient required peritoneal dialysis every 8 hours following kidney disease surgery two months ago.
However, due to road flooding caused by the heavy rain, hospital transport was impossible and the dialysis fluid was insufficient.
Subsequently, a fire helicopter was dispatched, but transport was impossible due to worsening weather and heavy rain, and even the local health center was flooded, making dialysis fluid supply impossible.
Upon hearing the news, the patient's family gathered dialysis fluid from Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, joined the paramedics, and while monitoring the road conditions until the flooded roads became passable, fortunately, the roads stabilized, and around 4 a.m. that day, the patient was dramatically transported to Gurye Hospital to receive peritoneal dialysis treatment and recover health.
The patient reportedly expressed gratitude, saying that thanks to the firefighters, the treatment was successfully completed.
