Prime Minister Jeong Returns from Vacation... "Devoted to Inspecting and Leading Flood Damage Recovery"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Following President Moon Jae-in, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun has also canceled his summer vacation to focus on inspecting the heavy rain damage situation and is dedicating himself to on-site visits.
According to the Prime Minister's Office on the 9th, Prime Minister Chung plans to indefinitely postpone his summer vacation schedule this week and concentrate on inspecting the heavy rain damage and recovery efforts.
Since his inauguration, Prime Minister Chung has been working tirelessly without weekends due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so he had planned to quietly rest at the Sejong official residence during this vacation.
However, as heavy rain damage has increased nationwide and related accidents such as landslides, ship capsizing, and embankment collapses have occurred consecutively, he made this decision.
Nonetheless, Prime Minister Chung reportedly encouraged regular employees to "definitely take their vacation if their work is unrelated to the heavy rain situation," fearing that they might refrain from taking leave due to pressure from superiors.
On the 1st, Prime Minister Chung inspected the flooded site of Cosmos Apartments in Seo-gu, Daejeon, and on the 2nd and 3rd, he visited the Hangang Flood Control Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and the damaged areas in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, respectively.
