[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Donna Welton, known as a 'Japan expert,' has been appointed as the U.S. representative for the South Korea-U.S. defense cost-sharing negotiations. Welton is the successor to former representative James DeHart, who recently moved to the position of Arctic Coordinator.
The State Department spokesperson said on the 3rd (local time), regarding the successor to former representative DeHart, "We are pleased to announce that Donna Welton will serve as our new chief negotiator, succeeding DeHart."

The State Department explained that the new chief negotiator Welton will be responsible not only for the South Korea-U.S. defense cost-sharing negotiations but also for the Special Measures Agreement on the cost-sharing of U.S. forces stationed in Japan, as well as all U.S. defense cooperation and cost-sharing negotiations conducted worldwide.
