Gwangju City Resumes Cultural and Sports Events Complying with Quarantine Guidelines
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that starting from the 3rd, it will resume cultural and sports events that had been postponed by strictly adhering to thorough quarantine guidelines, including prior risk assessments of the events themselves, following the transition to Level 1 social distancing.
The outdoor events resuming this month include the family cultural arts program "Art Picnic" held at Jungoe Park and Pungam Park, the "Weekend Regular Performances" at the Traditional Culture Center, and the "Regular Gugak Performances" at the Culture and Arts Center.
Next month, preparations are underway to hold the "Gwangju Fringe Festival," which takes place every Saturday at the Asia Culture Center and the 518 Democracy Square area, as an event that complies with distancing and other preventive guidelines.
Professional baseball, which has been operated without spectators since its opening, will allow spectators starting from the 4th, and professional soccer will admit spectators from the 16th, limiting attendance to a maximum of 10% of the stadium capacity.
All events, including those organized by the city and those supported by the private sector, will establish and implement meticulous quarantine prevention plans such as social distancing, mask-wearing, temperature checks, provision of hand sanitizers, and QR code entry to ensure thorough safety measures.
Furthermore, in preparation for the prolonged COVID-19 situation in the "With Corona" era, the city plans to promote the "2020 Cultural Arts Performance and Exhibition Online Theater."
The "Online Theater" is a project designed to revitalize the cultural and arts sector, which has been depressed due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, by producing videos with commentary of live performances and exhibitions and providing them online as a service.
Twenty performing arts teams and ten visual arts teams will be selected through a public contest. This project aims to satisfy citizens' cultural and artistic viewing desires, provide jobs for local cultural artists, and prepare for the post-COVID era's new environment of online screening and distribution.
