Gyeongbuk Province Launches 'Children's Right to Play Guarantee Committee' ... Restructuring School Spaces to Focus on Play
48 Billion Won Support for Elementary Schools and Kindergartens This Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 3rd that it will actively work on institutional improvements and environmental creation related to children's play inside and outside kindergartens and schools in line with the launch of the 'Children's Right to Play Guarantee Committee' on the 5th.
This committee was formed with 10 members including experts from academia and related institutions, parents, and education officials, based on the 'Ordinance on Guaranteeing Children's Right to Play by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education' enacted last September at the initiative of Assemblyman Cho Hyun-il (Gyeongsan·Education Committee).
The ordinance includes provisions such as securing playtime before and after classes, providing play spaces, developing and distributing play activity materials and programs, supporting play-related research groups, and includes regulations for supporting necessary project expenses.
In this regard, Gyeongbuk Province plans to support 71.9 billion KRW to 719 schools and 83 kindergartens this year by operating a play-centered school space restructuring semester system and setting four practical areas including strengthening the capacity of the educational community.

Superintendent Lim Jong-sik stated, "Children are happiest when they grow and dream while playing, so families, schools, and communities must respect children's right to play and provide sufficient play spaces and time," adding, "We will continue to implement policies to foster a healthy play culture."
