[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan Museum will open its themed exhibition "Busan, The Beginning of Its History," covering the prehistoric history of the Busan area, starting from the 4th of this month.
This exhibition was prepared to promote the Busan Museum's prehistoric exhibition hall, which has been reorganized for the first time in seven years. Along with the renovation and repair of display cases, the exhibition hall has been completely transformed, showcasing the period from the Paleolithic Age to the Samhan period in Busan.
In particular, reflecting recent exhibition trends, the viewing environment has been improved with three-dimensional displays. Newly added artifacts, including the latest excavation materials, concretely represent the prehistoric culture of Busan.
The exhibition is organized sequentially from the introduction to the Paleolithic Age, Neolithic Age, Bronze Age, and Samhan period of Busan.
In the introduction, a timeline of representative historical facts from Busan's prehistoric and protohistoric periods (Paleolithic to Samhan), ancient period (Three Kingdoms to Unified Silla), and medieval period (Goryeo) is presented and visualized through video.
A cross-section of the Dongsam-dong shell midden is displayed with representative artifact images from each cultural layer to help visitors easily understand the concepts of stratigraphy and deposition, as well as the culture of the Dongsam-dong shell midden.
In the Paleolithic Age section, stone tools excavated from sites such as Haeundae Jwadong and Jungdong are exhibited. Visitors can explore the culture of the Paleolithic Age, where Busan's history began.
The Neolithic Age section focuses on artifacts excavated from representative Neolithic sites in Busan, including Dongsam-dong, Beombang shell midden, and Gadukdo Janghang site. The exhibition is divided into themes such as pottery, tools, food, exchange, and burial culture to facilitate understanding of Busan's Neolithic culture.
The Bronze Age section highlights Busan's Bronze Age sites centered around the Suyeong and Nakdong Rivers. Especially, well-preserved red slip pottery and polished stone swords excavated from the Oncheon 2 district site are displayed, offering insights into the life and death beliefs of people in Busan during the Bronze Age.
The Samhan period section interprets the culture of Busan, which belonged to Byeonhan at the time, through artifacts excavated from Bangok-ri site pit tombs and Nopo-dong site wooden coffin tombs. Various pottery and iron artifacts reveal the class society of that era.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, all exhibitions and visits at the Busan Museum, including the themed exhibition, will be operated by reservation through the internet for the time being. Visitors can select their desired date and time by clicking on the Busan Museum website.
