Creation of 'Children's Dream Park,' a Creative Play Park in the Plaza Next to Sowol Art Hall, Seongdong-gu
Created a 'Children's Committee' and Held 5 Workshops, Reflecting Various Ideas... Transformed into a Child-Friendly Play Park with Zipline, Trampoline, Water Play Facilities, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) opened the customized playground park "Children's Dream Park," created with ideas from children, on the 24th of last month.
Children's Dream Park is a customized playground park for children located on a 5,300㎡ plaza next to Sowol Art Hall in Haengdang-dong. It features facilities rarely seen in traditional playgrounds, including a zipline and trampoline, as well as customized combination play equipment, play hills, a multi-court for ball games, and water play facilities such as water drops, water tunnels, and ground fountains.
The plaza next to Sowol Art Hall in Haengdang-dong was previously an empty space where children rode bicycles or played ball games. Responding to residents' requests to transform the plaza into a playground where children could play freely, the district embarked on a playground creation project with children to establish a creative space for free play culture rather than a conventional uniform playground.
Last year, the district conducted five workshops from the design stage with 20 children from Haengdang Elementary School, the closest school to the site. The children enthusiastically shared ideas, designing and modeling the play activities they liked and wanted to do.
The district formed the "Seongdong-gu Children's Committee" and incorporated most of the children's ideas during the construction period.
Joon-woo Choi (12), a member of the Children's Committee from Haengdang Elementary School, said at the opening ceremony, "Seeing the things we talked about in the classroom come to life right before my eyes feels like a dream. I hope all the children playing here have fun and don’t get hurt. This is a playground of dreams."
Additionally, the district completely renovated the sidewalks around the Sowol Art Hall plaza, which had been old and sunken due to long neglect, and created new resting areas and green spaces so that residents can walk safely and enjoy leisure time.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "This place was created through empathy and thoughtful consideration to become a space that children truly want. I want to offer children joy in their daily lives during these difficult times. We will do our best to make Seongdong a place filled with children's laughter and bright energy, befitting a child-friendly city."

To ensure the safe use of Dream Park by children, regular disinfection is being conducted. The water play facilities have been suspended after a trial operation during the opening ceremony in accordance with government guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will resume operation in the future following government directives.
