2020 POSCO Dream Camp Held Online Due to COVID-19 Impact
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The POSCO Chungam Foundation announced that it will start the "Digital Learning Mentoring" program, a non-face-to-face online method, as part of the "2020 POSCO Dream Camp" over four months from August 1 to November 30.
The POSCO Dream Camp has been operated as a five-month program consisting of a two-week summer residential camp, four months of online learning mentoring, and then a two-week winter residential camp. However, this year, due to the impact of COVID-19, the summer residential camp was canceled, and the online non-face-to-face "Digital Learning Mentoring" program was expanded.
The "Digital Learning Mentoring" program involves 118 mentees recommended from 26 middle schools in the Pohang and Gwangyang areas and 40 university student mentors who will guide the middle school mentees online.
Unlike the existing one-way internet video lectures and 1:many online video classes, the POSCO Dream Camp "Digital Learning Mentoring" program allows dedicated mentors to provide 1:1 video learning guidance and career counseling to mentees through a dedicated application, enabling highly focused mentoring. Additionally, special lectures on topics such as motivating learning, acquiring efficient study methods, and setting life goals are prepared for mentees. Outstanding participants in this "Digital Learning Mentoring" program will be granted eligibility to participate in the winter residential camp scheduled for January next year.
A representative of the POSCO Chungam Foundation said, "We could not stop the POSCO Dream Camp, which was started to give dreams and hope to middle school students at a very important stage in life and to create opportunities for those dreams to come true, due to COVID-19. Starting with the operation of this online non-face-to-face 'Digital Learning Mentoring,' we will continuously seek new scholarship program operation methods to respond to the post-COVID-19 era."

As part of practicing POSCO's management philosophy of "Corporate Citizenship Growing Together," the POSCO Dream Camp, which began in 2019, provides opportunities for middle school students in the Pohang and Gwangyang areas?who have the will and passion for study but face regional limitations and economic difficulties, resulting in relatively fewer opportunities to improve learning capabilities and explore career paths?to receive better education. It also offers university student mentors opportunities to develop volunteer spirit and leadership, along with scholarships, contributing to solving the problem of educational polarization.
