Seoul Jamsugyo Bridge Fully Closed to Vehicle Traffic Due to Rising Han River Water Levels
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] As heavy rain raised the water level of the Han River, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has completely restricted vehicle traffic on Jamsu Bridge.
On the 2nd, the Seoul Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced that vehicle traffic on Jamsu Bridge in Seoul has been fully restricted since 5:27 PM. Earlier that day, around 3 PM, Seoul had already limited pedestrian access on Jamsu Bridge.
Seoul restricts pedestrian traffic on Jamsu Bridge when the water level exceeds 5.5 meters and vehicle traffic when it exceeds 6.2 meters.
At 5:50 PM that day, the water level of Jamsu Bridge was measured at 6.22 meters. Seoul explained that since the discharge from Paldang Dam is over 9,000 tons per second, causing the Han River's water level to rise, the restrictions are expected to continue for the time being.
Additionally, Seoul urged citizens to refrain from using riverside roads, Jamsu Bridge, Banpo Bridge, and other Han River bridges to prevent safety accidents.
