Provided as a Career Experience Video for Nowon-gu Youth
Introducing Various Community Mentors' Jobs Through Videos... Featuring Local Rice Cake Shop, Pharmacy, Pet Expert, Space School, and More with Interviews... Produced Videos Distributed to Sangsang Irum Center Schools Along with Job Experience Kits
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is providing youth career experience education, which has become difficult to conduct due to COVID-19, through content videos created by local community experts.
This is a collaborative project with the local community amid the challenges of in-person schooling and face-to-face education caused by COVID-19.
Currently, school classes are conducted online and with alternating weekly attendance, but it is practically difficult for youth to freely experience jobs in their desired fields on-site.
To address these difficulties in education, Nowon-gu decided to produce and provide videos of activities by experience facilities and mentors who have worked with youth career experiences in the community for many years as content for young people.
Participating institutions include about 30 local public institutions such as Nowon-gu Office, Uju School, police station, library, Makers One, as well as neighborhood businesses frequently encountered like rice cake shops, beauty salons, Korean medicine clinics, pharmacies, and theaters.
The experience videos are conducted in a format where mentors in the video visit the site as if the youth themselves were visiting the experience facilities, receive introductions to the work, try the tasks on-site, and receive advice.
At the end of the experience, the video concludes with a general evaluation from the business owner about the work done that day and interviews with related personnel. Each video was filmed in two episodes, each about 15 minutes long.
The advantage of video education is that practical experience is possible even in places where online classes are held.
Additionally, it serves as pre- and post-education for career exploration purposes, allowing students to look up and plan further inquiries after the online career experience.
Furthermore, videos with kits containing materials to experience the jobs will be produced and distributed to students.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The purpose of this project is to foster a self-directed learning attitude where youth are curious and seek out information on their own,” adding, “We will create various conditions to enable career experiences both online and offline even amid the COVID-19 situation.”
