Announcement of 2020 Architect Qualification Exam Passers... Total 1,306 Candidates
[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] This year, 1,300 architects newly obtained their qualifications.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the successful candidates of the '2020 1st Architect Qualification Examination' held on the 20th of last month on the 31st through the Ministry and the Korea Institute of Registered Architects websites. This year, 7,068 candidates took the exam, a decrease of 868 from 7,936 last year, and 1,306 candidates, accounting for 18.5%, passed all three subjects to newly obtain their qualifications.
The pass rate for the architect exam has been gradually increasing. The pass rate was 10.0% (607 people) in 2017, followed by 10.6% (752 people) in 2018, and 13.7% (1,090 people) last year. This year, it increased by 4.8 percentage points (216 people).
By subject, the pass rate was highest in the 3rd session, Architectural Design 2, at 31.7% (1,650 people). The 2nd session, Architectural Design 1, followed with 28.8% (1,243 people), but this was nearly half the pass rate compared to last year's 43.4% (2,550 people). The 1st session, Site Planning, had a pass rate of 22.0%.
Among the successful candidates, those in their 40s accounted for 571 people (43.7%), and those in their 30s accounted for 547 people (41.9%), making up the majority of the passers. Female successful candidates numbered 394, accounting for 30.2% of all passers. Although this is a slight decrease from 30.6% last year, the total number of successful candidates increased, so the number of female passers rose by 60 to 394 compared to last year.
Additionally, since last year's exam, measures to improve convenience for disabled candidates, such as assigning separate exam rooms and extending exam time, have shown results. Among 16 disabled candidates, 6 passed.
The final successful candidates will be announced on September 18 after document screening including career verification for the candidates announced today, through the Ministry and the Korea Institute of Registered Architects websites. The successful candidates must submit related documents such as career certificates to the institute during the three days from the 5th to the 7th of next month. Scores by subject will be available for review until the 14th of next month.
