Yeonggwang-gun Selected for Two Projects in the Ministry of Industry's 'e-Mobility Contest'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 30th that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's public projects ‘e-Mobility Power System High Safety Evaluation Infrastructure Construction Project’ and ‘e-Mobility Small Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Center Construction Project’ have been finally selected.
The county plans to invest a total project cost of 31.8 billion KRW over two years from this year to 2022 in the Daema Electric Vehicle Industrial Complex area to integrate research facilities related to power systems and hydrogen fuel cells, which are core components of e-mobility.
The ‘e-Mobility Power System High Safety Evaluation Infrastructure Construction Project’ is led by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, with participation from Jeonnam Technopark, the e-Mobility Association, Suncheon National University, and Mokpo National University.
Aiming to secure battery safety, a core component of e-mobility, a total of 19.3 billion KRW will be spent by 2022 to build an evaluation infrastructure center and develop battery safety testing methods and conduct test evaluations.
The county is also promoting the ‘e-Mobility Small Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Center Construction Project’ worth 13 billion KRW, aiming to foster the small hydrogen fuel cell-based transportation equipment industry.
Led by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute and involving Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Chonnam National University, Suncheon National University, and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, the project will build a specialized hydrogen fuel cell testing center and perform data analysis and feedback R&D through demonstration of e-mobility equipped with 1 to 5 kW class small hydrogen fuel cell systems.
Through this project, it is expected to strengthen the global competitiveness of related industries by converging the e-mobility industry and hydrogen fuel cell industry, thereby increasing exports of domestic companies and creating high-quality jobs.
It is also anticipated that the development of hydrogen e-mobility capable of long-distance operation with short charging times will be accelerated, creating various service industries utilizing this technology.
