Namwon-si Installs CCTV in Households of Women with Intellectual Disabilities
Completion of CCTV Installation in 10 Households, Enhancing Security and Prompt Response
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, is receiving positive responses for promoting a CCTV installation project targeting households of intellectually disabled women who are vulnerable to crimes such as sexual violence.
According to the city on the 29th, with a project budget of 15 million won, CCTV installation has been completed for 10 households of intellectually disabled women.
Currently, there are about 400 intellectually disabled women in the Namwon area, accounting for 11% of all women with disabilities, showing a relatively high proportion.
This project is based on the recognition that people with mental disabilities are relatively vulnerable to crimes such as sexual violence and the judgment that prevention and protection are necessary.
The CCTV installations were placed 2 to 3 units per household on the exterior of buildings such as gates or entrances to avoid infringing on the privacy of the disabled individuals or their guardians.
Additionally, among high-risk intellectually disabled individuals without guardians or where obtaining consent is difficult, the installation targets were selected and installed after consultation with Namwon Police Station and the Intellectual Developmental Disability Welfare Association, followed by on-site inspections.
As a result of a satisfaction survey conducted by the city regarding the CCTV installation, guardians evaluated that they felt reassured by being able to confirm the safety of the women with disabilities and that prompt response was facilitated.
Accordingly, the city plans to complete installations for households urgently requiring them by the end of this year through additional demand surveys, and to promote installations for the remaining households as a project next year.
