Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation Conducts Safety Inspections of 99 Nationwide Oil Spill Response Warehouses
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM) announced on the 28th that it will conduct a comprehensive safety inspection of 99 oil spill response warehouses nationwide until the 31st of next month.
This safety inspection aims to ensure rapid response in the event of marine pollution accidents by conducting on-site checks of the storage condition of equipment, fire prevention status, and the posting of emergency contact networks at oil spill response equipment storage warehouses installed in fishing villages and major ports nationwide (53 fishing village oil spill response centers and 46 forward-deployed oil spill response centers).
In particular, as heavy rain and strong typhoons are expected to hit the Korean Peninsula during this monsoon season, KOEM plans to pre-inspect the operational status of the oil spill response warehouses to prevent human and material damage, with a focus on whether relocation from hazardous areas such as slopes to safer areas is necessary.
Furthermore, if any safety hazards are discovered during the inspection, immediate follow-up measures such as re-securing or relocating the oil spill response warehouses will be taken to ensure thorough preparation against safety accidents.
