"Untrustworthy Camping Food"... Gyeonggi-do 'Caught' at 14 Locations
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province conducted a focused crackdown on camping food businesses selling expired food and caught 14 violations.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 28th that from the 6th to the 10th, they conducted inspections on 60 camping food manufacturing and sales businesses and uncovered a total of 14 illegal activities.
Specifically, a meat sales business A in Yongmun-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, an area with many valleys and concentrated camping sites and pensions, was caught storing meat that was about ten days past its expiration date together with fresh meat without separation.
Another meat sales business B in the same area was caught selling frozen meat stored in a refrigerator. Frozen meat generally has a shelf life of about two years, whereas refrigerated meat lasts about one month. The 'Livestock Products Sanitation Control Act' prohibits selling frozen meat stored in a refrigerator for safety reasons.
Incheon City’s food manufacturing business C was caught for failing to conduct monthly self-quality inspections on sauces used in food production since March 2018, despite the requirement to do so.
The current Livestock Products Sanitation Control Act stipulates that storing expired livestock products without a 'for disposal' label or storing them without adhering to temperature regulations can result in imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 50 million won. Additionally, failure to conduct self-quality inspections can lead to imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won under the 'Food Sanitation Act.'
