Emphasis Through the 625 Armistice Day Proclamation
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized that the ironclad alliance between South Korea and the United States is essential for peace and stability in Asia and the world, and expressed his intention for the continued presence of U.S. troops in South Korea.
On the 26th (local time), President Trump made this statement through a proclamation commemorating the Korean War Veterans Armistice Day on the 27th, the anniversary of the Korean War armistice.
In the proclamation, President Trump said, "Once devastated by war, South Korea is now one of the most vibrant, dynamic, and economically prosperous democracies in the world and one of our strongest allies," adding, "Our troops will proudly continue to serve alongside the South Korean military."

While President Trump included messages to North Korea in the Korean War Veterans Armistice Day proclamations over the past two years, there was none this time. Last year's proclamation mentioned North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and the North Korea-U.S. summit held at Panmunjom about a month earlier, expressing hope that it would be a driving force for North Korea's denuclearization and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. The 2018 proclamation highlighted that the first North Korea-U.S. summit gave new hope for the future.
