The ‘Resident Life Innovation Case Expansion Support Project’ is a program by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety that selects innovative projects implemented by local governments to resolve residents’ inconveniences and enhance resident benefits, providing a total budget support of 3 billion KRW.
In this competition, 58 projects were selected out of 89 projects nationwide. Among them, Geumcheon-gu was the only district in Seoul, along with Jecheon City, Dong-gu of Gwangju, and Chungcheongbuk-do, to be selected as an excellent project, securing a project budget of 120 million KRW.
The smart city projects proposed by the district for the ‘Resident Life Innovation Case Expansion Support Project’ include three initiatives: ‘Stop Line Violation Vehicle Detection System,’ ‘Speed Limit Alert for Children Protection Zones,’ and ‘AI Pedestrian Alert.’
The ‘Stop Line Violation Vehicle Detection System’ is a system that detects vehicles violating the stop line at crosswalks in real time and displays the violating vehicle’s license plate number on a front electronic display board to raise drivers’ awareness.
Additionally, the ‘Speed Limit Alert for Children Protection Zones’ measures the current speed of approaching vehicles and encourages slow driving through emoticons and messages, while the ‘AI Pedestrian Alert’ detects pedestrians and vehicles using intelligent CCTV and informs them in real time via LED and logo projectors to prevent traffic accidents.
Through this competition selection, the district secured 120 million KRW in project funds and plans to complete the project by the end of the year, focusing on school commute routes for children, where the risk of traffic accidents is high.
Since last year, the district has been actively introducing and promoting smart services for pedestrian traffic safety, focusing on traffic safety. These include the ‘Floor Traffic Lights’ to prevent accidents involving smartphone users (Smombie), the ‘Smart Parking Alert’ to maintain golden time in emergencies, and the ‘Runway-type Crosswalk’ for children’s pedestrian safety.
