Mapo-gu Launches Development of 'Commercial Area Analysis Big Data Integrated Platform' for Small Business Owners
Recent Kick-off Meeting for Big Data Integrated Platform Development for Commercial Area Analysis... Plans to Recommend and Analyze Commercial Areas Using Big Data on Local Commercial Structures and Sales Status... Development to be Completed by Year-End
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) has officially launched the development of the 'Mapo-gu Commercial Area Analysis Big Data Integrated Platform,' designed to assist local small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs based on precise commercial area analysis.
On the 13th, the district held a kickoff meeting for the development project of the Mapo-gu Commercial Area Analysis Big Data Integrated Platform at the Mapo-gu Office.
The Mapo-gu Commercial Area Analysis Big Data Integrated Platform is a system that provides customized commercial area analysis services to prospective entrepreneurs and small business owners through big data analysis, including analysis of the commercial area's structure (commercial area index, opening and closing rates, floating, residential, and workplace population analysis, etc.) and sales status analysis (sales by region, industry, and scale).
The core function of the integrated platform is a service that recommends or analyzes suitable commercial areas when prospective entrepreneurs input information such as their desired industry, rent, and floating population.
Additionally, it provides small business owners with commercial area analysis reports around their stores, which have rapidly changed before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
To this end, Mapo-gu plans to utilize big data from administrative data such as permits and business suspension information held by public institutions in cooperation with Seoul City and the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation, as well as floating population and sales consumption data provided by private sectors including telecommunications companies, card companies, and the Korea Securities Depository.
According to the agreement signed in February between Mapo-gu and the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation (Chairman Han Jong-kwan), the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation will provide Mapo-gu with big data for commercial area analysis, such as industry-specific status, congestion index, and commercial area risk index. Based on this, the district will offer customized commercial area analysis services including industry, rent, and floating population to small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs.

The district plans to complete the development of the commercial area analysis integrated platform by the end of this year and support local small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs through analysis information on niche and risk commercial areas in the post-COVID-19 era, based on big data updated monthly thereafter.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The era of utilizing big data is accelerating due to COVID-19,” adding, “We will build a unique Mapo commercial area analysis platform that can help local small business owners with startup and management by providing services that precisely datafy the characteristics of industries, regions, and commercial areas.”
