Lee Jae-yong Big Data Public Sentiment Shows Preference for 'Focus on Management' Over 'Prosecutor Indictment'
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Big data analysis results regarding Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong show that public sentiment favors 'focus on management' over 'prosecution by the prosecution.'
On the 22nd, the Global Big Data Research Institute announced that it analyzed 6,851 posts about 'Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong' across eight channels including communities, blogs, cafes, and Instagram over 25 days from the 26th of last month to the 20th of this month. The analysis revealed that keywords related to 'focus on management' appeared more than twice as often as those related to 'prosecution by the prosecution.'
Among posts containing the keyword for Vice Chairman Lee, there were 20,962 related keywords for 'focus on management,' compared to 10,094 related keywords for 'prosecution by the prosecution.'
Excluding 29,285 neutral keywords unrelated to public sentiment, the proportion of the two keywords showed that 'focus on management' accounted for 67.5%, which is 35 percentage points higher than 'prosecution by the prosecution' at 32.5%.
Looking specifically at keywords related to Vice Chairman Lee, the institute explained that 'prosecution' appeared 2,087 times and 'non-prosecution' 2,039 times, with prosecution slightly higher by 48 instances.
However, an in-depth analysis of the 'Top 50' related keywords showed that management-related keywords such as future, semiconductor, global, management, and development appeared more frequently than prosecution-related keywords such as prosecution and unable to prosecute.
In a survey conducted by the institute on the 8th of last month, 59% of the public expressed leniency toward Vice Chairman Lee, who was facing a detention review.

Despite strong calls for strict punishment from some quarters amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and escalating economic crisis, opinions favoring his focus on management, enabling quick decision-making in investments, are rising."
