Two Wanju County Councilors Involved in Independent Party Collusion Controversy Expelled from Democratic Party
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Kim Jae-cheon, who was elected as the chairman of the Wanju County Council in Jeonbuk for the second half of the year due to alleged collusion with independent council members, has been expelled from the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 21st, the Jeonbuk Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea announced that it had issued a final expulsion notice to Chairman Kim Jae-cheon (Bongdong·Yongjin-eup) and proportional representative council member Choi Chan-young, who were referred to the party's Ethics Tribunal Committee the previous day.
This decision was based on a petition claiming that the two council members violated the party's policy during last month's chairman election by colluding with independent council members, an act harmful to the party.
The Wanju County Council is composed of 7 Democratic Party members and 4 independents, with the council organized into positions such as chairman, vice chairman, council operation committee, autonomous administration committee, and industrial construction committee.
Although the Democratic Party held a majority in terms of the number of council members, the composition of the chairman group for the second half of the year was entirely occupied by independents except for Chairman Kim Jae-cheon and Autonomous Administration Committee Chairman Choi Chan-young.
The Democratic Party regarded this as collusion with independents, and the disciplinary action was decided by National Assembly member and regional party chairman Ahn Ho-young.
