5 Dead in Fire at Yongin SLC Logistics Center... All Found on Basement Level 4 (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] A fire broke out at a large logistics center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, resulting in 5 deaths.
According to the Fire Department on the 21st, at around 8:29 a.m. that day, a fire of unknown cause occurred near pallets stored on the second basement floor of the SLC logistics center located in Jeil-ri, Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si.
The fire authorities issued Response Level 1, an alarm order dispatching all personnel from the local fire station, at 8:39 a.m., 10 minutes after receiving the report. Then, upon confirming that people were trapped in the basement, the alarm was raised to Response Level 2 at 9:09 a.m., mobilizing personnel from 5 to 9 nearby fire stations.
At the time of the fire, there were 69 workers on site, of whom 64 were confirmed to have evacuated. Among the evacuated personnel, 8 injured were transported to hospitals.
The remaining 5 were ultimately found dead. The fire officials stated that all of them were found on the fourth basement floor.
The SLC logistics center where the fire occurred has 5 basement floors and 4 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of approximately 115,000 square meters, and was completed in December 2018.
On the first floor above ground, Emart24 and JOPNP are located, and Ottogi is on the first basement floor. The second basement floor is a shipping area, while the third and fourth basement floors house cold storage facilities for Ottogi and JOPNP.

The fire was initially controlled around 10:30 a.m., two hours after it started, but the inside of the building was still reported to be filled with smoke. A fire official said, "There is still a lot of smoke inside, so we are continuing the search for people. Once the search is complete, we will begin investigating the cause of the fire."
