Hwasun-gun Conducts Emergency Inspection of Water Supply Facilities, Finds No Issues
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) has conducted an emergency inspection of water supply facilities such as water purification plants and strengthened management.
According to the county on the 21st, in order to alleviate the anxiety felt by residents due to the spread of the 'tap water larvae' incident that recently occurred in some areas of the metropolitan area, a special inspection of the water purification plant by the Korea Water Resources Corporation Hwasun Office, an emergency inspection of water supply facilities, and tap water quality tests were conducted, and no abnormalities were found in the water quality or facilities.
The county currently operates four water purification plants: Chunyang, Cheongpung·Iyang, Dongbok, and Baeka.
Hwasun-eup, Hancheon-myeon, Neungju-myeon, Dogok-myeon, Doam-myeon, Dong-myeon, and Sapyeong-myeon receive purified water from the Korea Water Resources Corporation Jooam Dam.
All four water purification plants produce tap water in sealed slow sand filters.
Although the structure makes it difficult for larvae to enter or inhabit, the county conducted an emergency inspection of the facilities to produce and supply safer tap water and to alleviate concerns about water quality.
In addition, insect-proof facilities were installed on ventilation fans, cleaning around water facilities was carried out, water puddles were removed, and breeding environments for aquatic organisms were completely eliminated through disinfection of habitual occurrence sites.
The Korea Water Resources Corporation Hwasun Office also conducted a special inspection of the water purification plants, and the inspection results showed 'no abnormalities.' They will continue to operate under an emergency system to ensure that not a single water quality complaint occurs in the future.
The county plans to ease vague concerns about water quality by expanding the inspection frequency of water purification plants (from once a month to twice a month), adding turbidity to the tap water quality inspection items, and implementing a tap water safety confirmation system (free water quality inspection at home).
Regarding the hygiene management of water tanks and water supply facilities in large buildings, the county urged the owners (managers) of the buildings responsible to maintain cleanliness to eliminate breeding environments for aquatic organisms.
