[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dong-Eui University International Cooperation Center has been selected as the executing institution for the establishment and post-management project of a vocational training institute in Nigeria, marking its expansion into Africa.

On the 20th, Dong-Eui University International Cooperation Center announced that it was recently selected as the project management advisory institution for KOICA’s (Korea International Cooperation Agency) “Post-Management Project for the Establishment of the Kogi State Vocational Training Institute in Nigeria.”

This project is a post-support initiative promoted by KOICA since 2010 for five years to strengthen the institutional operation and educational capacity of the local vocational training institute NKFI, provide vocational technical education, and support employment through industry-academia cooperation with Nigerian local companies and Korean companies operating in Nigeria.

The project, with a total budget of 720,000 USD (approximately 870 million KRW), is scheduled to proceed for 17 months from July this year to November 2021.

Dong-Eui University plans to improve the NKFI operation master plan and form an industry-academia cooperation committee to develop curricula reflecting labor market demands and support employment and entrepreneurship.

In particular, to strengthen educational capacity in the fields of electrical and electronics, welding, computer, and automotive, the project will be promoted in connection with national technical qualification acquisition. Local training will also be conducted to develop educational manuals and improve the lecture quality of NKFI faculty. To improve the educational environment, maintenance of equipment supported in the first phase of the project, additional supply of practical training equipment, and establishment of an e-library to support educational materials will be implemented.

Professor Seong Jeong-ae of Dong-Eui University International Cooperation Center will participate in this project as the overall project manager, along with Dr. Kang Min-jong, Professor Lee Jin-kyung of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Jang Hee-sook of Computer Software Engineering, Professor Lee Sang-hoon of the Electrical Department at Dong-Eui Science College, and Professor Lee Jong-ho of the Automotive Department.

Lee Im-geon, Director of the International Cooperation Center, stated, “The post-management project for the establishment of the Kogi State Vocational Training Institute in Nigeria will contribute not only to revitalizing the economy by nurturing skilled professionals needed in Nigerian industries but also to enhancing friendly relations between Korea and Nigeria.”

Dong-Eui University International Cooperation Center is carrying out KOICA’s projects such as the Sri Lanka technical teacher training and retraining project, the construction of three schools for vulnerable children in Syrian refugee-dense areas in Jordan, and the establishment of the Zarqa Technical High School in Jordan. It is also expanding its activities by participating in the project management of the Pakistan solar cell module certification testing laboratory establishment project.
