Suncheon City Conducts Aerial Pest Control for Chestnut Trees
Contribution to Income Increase of Chestnut Farmers through Eco-friendly Pesticide Use
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) will conduct aerial pesticide spraying using eco-friendly agents over 635 hectares of chestnut cultivation areas from the 24th to the 27th.
The aerial spraying schedule is planned as follows: ▶24th in Songgwang-myeon, Oeseo-myeon, Juam-myeon; ▶25th in Nagan-myeon, Byeollyang-myeon, Sangsa-myeon; ▶26th in Seungju-eup, Woldeung-myeon, Hwangjeon-myeon (Juknae); ▶27th in Hwangjeon-myeon (Bichon, Mojeon).
The spraying will take place from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the schedule may change depending on weather conditions and helicopter operation status.
During the aerial spraying period, grazing of livestock, mountain entry, and wild vegetable harvesting are prohibited within 2 km of the spraying area. Special attention must be paid to damage prevention measures such as protecting beekeeping, sericulture, and fish farms.
This aerial spraying, conducted with support from the Korea Forest Service helicopter, aims to control pests such as the peach moth, and is expected to contribute to increasing chestnut production volume and quality, thereby improving farmers' income.

A representative from Suncheon City’s Forestry Department stated, “We hope this aerial spraying will help reduce production costs for farmers and enhance the production capacity of high-quality chestnuts.” They also urged, “Nearby residents should pay close attention to the spraying schedule and precautions to prevent any damage.”
