Starting Next Month, Payments Accepted at All Card Companies
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeonju City in Jeollabuk-do is considering expanding the convenience of purchasing and recharging city bus passes at convenience stores to enhance user convenience, becoming the first city in the nation to introduce this system.
On the 15th, the city announced plans to expand the mobile payment method for city bus passes from the current single card company to all card companies, and starting next year, to allow the purchase and recharge of physical bus pass cards at convenience stores.
First, the city will expand the payment options for mobile bus passes, which were previously only available through Lotte Card, to include all card companies such as BC Card starting from the 1st of next month.
Additionally, from next year, besides the existing 21 locations including tourist information centers and community centers, the city plans to negotiate with convenience stores to enable the purchase and recharge of physical cards and to develop the necessary sales systems.
Regarding the city bus passes, there are three types: a 1-day pass (5,000 won), a 2-day pass (9,000 won), and a 30-day pass (40,000 won). Users can choose between a recharge method using smartphones (excluding iPhones) or a physical card method.
Since the start of sales on the 26th of last month until the 10th of this month, a total of 7,019 passes have been sold over two weeks. During the ‘Jeonju Good Consumption (多)’ event period, from the 26th of last month to the 2nd of this month, 5,822 30-day passes were sold at a discounted price of 10,000 won.
By sales type, 6,148 physical cards (87.6%) and 871 mobile cards (12.4%) were sold.
