Dong Welfare University is a project where residents take the lead in discovering and implementing local welfare agendas, with residents, government, and welfare institutions joining hands to enhance residents' capabilities and strengthen local welfare.
Earlier, the district was selected for the '2019 Community Welfare Council Activation Project' contest, and last year, two neighborhoods (Banghak 2-dong, Chang 2-dong) started the first year of Dong Welfare University.
Based on the excellent operational results last year, this year the Dong Welfare University will be expanded and promoted to a total of eight neighborhoods.
At the consortium agreement ceremony held on this day, the heads of the '8 Neighborhood Community Welfare Councils' operating Dong Welfare University, the '8 Neighborhood Resident Centers (Ssangmun 2-dong, Banghak 1 & 2-dong, Chang 1, 2 & 4-dong, Dobong 1 & 2-dong),' and '4 welfare institutions (Bangagol Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Changdong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Dobong Seowon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Dobong-gu Mental Health Welfare Center)' gathered in one place and promised to actively cooperate with mutual respect and trust in the overall operation of Dong Welfare University.
Established last year, Dong Welfare University achieved results by actively participating and operating by residents, presenting as an excellent case at the 'Seoul Community Welfare Council Regional Conference' held in September of the same year.
Residents participating in Dong Welfare University had the opportunity to learn how to find and help neighbors in need through the lens of human rights and welfare, and among the total 89 graduates, 20 were appointed as new members of the neighborhood community welfare council, expanding the council's human resources base.
Dong Welfare University provides education for residents who are highly interested in local welfare or currently engaged in welfare-related activities. In the first year, it focuses on resident organization, human rights, and welfare agenda discovery practice, and in the second year, it educates on planning and directly implementing neighborhood welfare plans based on the discovered welfare agendas.
