On the 13th, according to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, aiming for zero traffic accidents on students' commuting routes, 4.061 billion KRW will be provided to 308 schools for the ‘Pedestrian and Vehicle Road Separation Project’ that separates pedestrian paths and roadways used by students.
To promote this project, the Office of Education secured a budget of 5.3424 billion KRW for ‘Strengthening Safety on Students' Commuting Routes’ in the 2nd supplementary budget proposal.
To improve traffic safety facilities in child protection zones within the province and establish a safe traffic environment, 1.0494 billion KRW will be supported to Jeonnam Provincial Government for the installation of 103 enforcement cameras and signal devices, and 6 yellow carpets.
Additionally, to enhance visibility so that students can be easily seen by drivers during commuting times, traffic safety items will be distributed mainly to elementary school students in grades 1 to 3, with a total of 232 million KRW provided to city and county education regional offices.
An official from the Office of Education stated, “Despite strong measures such as the so-called ‘Min-sik Law’ recently implemented to prevent traffic accidents in child protection zones, the risk of traffic accidents has not easily diminished.”
