USFK Reports 9 New COVID-19 Cases in One Day... Tested Positive Immediately After Arrival from the US (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] It has been confirmed that the number of new COVID-19 cases related to the United States Forces Korea (USFK) increased by 9 in one day.
The USFK Command announced on the 10th that 7 soldiers who arrived at Osan Air Base on two US government charter flights tested positive for COVID-19 immediately after arrival.
Additionally, 2 others?a soldier who arrived at Incheon International Airport on a different civilian flight from the US and an American civilian worker?also tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival.
This is believed to be related to the severe COVID-19 situation currently in the United States.
The 9 individuals were reportedly transferred to COVID-19 patient isolation facilities located within Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek and Osan Air Base.
USFK stated that from the end of May until recently, they randomly tested 900 personnel and related individuals for COVID-19, with no positive cases detected.
Meanwhile, as of the 10th, 21 active-duty USFK soldiers are receiving treatment for COVID-19.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases among USFK soldiers, staff, and their families totals 63 (34 active-duty soldiers). Of these, 39 cases were imported from overseas, and the remaining 24 were domestic infections.
