Ministry of Employment Conducts 'Special Labor Inspection' on Gyeongju City Sports Council Related to the Death of Late Athlete Choi Sook-hyun

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that it has launched a special labor inspection on the Gyeongju City Sports Council on the 10th in relation to the recent human rights violation case involving the late athlete Choi Sook-hyun.
This special inspection will be conducted jointly by the Daegu Regional Employment and Labor Office and the Pohang Employment and Labor Office, forming a "Special Labor Inspection Team" to carry out the inspection over three weeks until the 31st of this month.
The inspection team plans to oversee not only the issues of assault, workplace harassment, and sexual harassment but also the overall labor-related laws including the Labor Standards Act.
During the special inspection, an investigation will also be conducted to determine whether there were additional acts of violence or verbal abuse against affiliated athletes and staff.

An official from the Ministry of Employment and Labor stated, "Depending on the findings of violations of labor-related laws during the special inspection, immediate measures such as legal action and imposition of fines will be taken. Additionally, a workplace organizational culture diagnosis will be conducted to improve unfair treatment of workers such as workplace harassment and unreasonable organizational culture, and improvement measures will be implemented based on the results."
