Coupang Eliminates Social Distancing Blind Spots with 'Technology'
Alarm Triggered When Worker Approaches Within 1 Meter via PDA
Prevents Contact Between Employees and Facilitates Identification of Close Contacts in Case of Confirmed Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang has independently developed and commercialized a social distancing application (app) for on-site workers. Coupang announced on the 10th that since the 19th of last month, it has distributed the social distancing app to all employees at logistics centers nationwide. The social distancing app installed on workers' PDAs is set to sound an alarm when a worker stays within a 1-meter radius and automatically records the contact person. This minimizes inadvertent contact during work to maintain social distancing and allows for the rapid identification of close contacts in case of confirmed or suspected cases through the automatically recorded contact list. This social distancing app system has been applied to all Coupang logistics centers nationwide and is scheduled to be expanded to all delivery camps nationwide within this month.
Coupang has implemented various measures to ensure employee safety amid the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation. In particular, it uses technology to enable employees to maintain social distancing comfortably without conscious effort. The social distancing app was completed after three weeks of focused development by an in-house development team.
